Parents,
We only have two weeks until Spring Break! All of our scholars have worked so hard, and I am very proud of every one of them. This week: - We will have 20 spelling words this week. Please only write the first 5 words in cursive, and then write the rest in print. Please also be sure to write the markings Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. The markings are not necessary on Thursday. - If your scholar has not brought in Stuart Little yet, please do that as soon as possible. We are beginning our study this week. - In math this week, we will begin our study of money. It would be great to have each scholar start helping with any little change or bills at home. Let them practice as much as they can! - We will finish our insect unit this Tuesday. Please help your scholar prepare for Tuesday's quiz by studying all insect notes. We will begin a new history unit on the United States Constitution. - Please remember to keep studying our poem, Windy Nights. We will begin assessing students' memorization of the poem Monday, March 7th. If you have lost your copy of the poem, please look on the blog (msgaabsclass.weebly.com) - We have had many scholars out sick the past couple of weeks! The flu is definitely floating around. We would really appreciate any lysol wipe donations to keep our classroom as clean as we can! Thank you in advance. Let's have a great last two weeks!

Parents,
This week: - As we begin to get closer to third grade, we will reduce the amount of spelling words we have each week. The number of words will not always be very "pretty" like our lucky number 30. For instance, this week we will have 21 words. The reason for this is due to the fact that we are beginning to teach more difficult words. The time needed to teach these words is increasing due to their complexity, and we value spending quality time on fewer words than rushing through 30 words and relying on memorization. In addition to looking closely at the expectations on the parent letter for the spelling homework this week, please also note that the only cursive to be used on spelling homework this week is on the first five words on Monday. - In math, we are concluding our unit on multiplication and division. We are so pleased to see students' progression and understanding of these concepts. It is truly an advanced unit for second graders, and they are thriving in this challenge. By the end of this week, they will have completed multiplication and division facts for 2s, 3s, 4s, 5s, and 10s. Please continue to practice these facts with your scholar nightly to gain automaticity. - In science, we will have a quiz on Tuesday on the life cycle of butterflies. Please study all notes in your scholar's science journal to help them prepare. - Our next poem to memorize is: Windy Nights By Robert Louis Stevenson Whenever the moon and stars are set, Whenever the wind is high, All night long in the dark and wet, A man goes riding by. Late in the night when the fires are out. Why does he gallop and gallop about? Whenever the trees are crying aloud, And ships are tossed at sea, By, on the highway, low and loud, By at the gallop goes he: By at the gallop he goes, and then By he comes back at the gallop again. Please begin to review this poem with your scholar as we do in class. The final date for memorization will be given out shortly, but anticipate it to be memorized before the end of the third quarter. It would be helpful to memorize one stanza a week and the poem as a whole the last week. Thank you for the support you provide at home. It truly makes all the difference. I hope you all have a wonderful week. Parents,
I hope everyone is enjoying their long weekend and are feeling refreshed! It was great to see some of you at our class gathering on Saturday! This week: - We have another cursive lesson tomorrow and will be introducing capital letters! We are slowly introducing cursive to our everyday writing, and we appreciate your patience. Please continue to do all homework in print until otherwise notified. Due to another cursive lesson, we will only have 10 spelling words this week (given on Wednesday). We will have spelling words and cursive practice for homework this week. - We are continuing our math unit on multiplication and division, and this week we are moving to 5s. Practice multiplication and division facts with your scholar at home for 2s, 3s, 4s and now 5s to keep them on top of it all. They can solve any problem if they can skip count, which we practice every day as well. - We will have a quiz on the life cycles of chickens and frogs on Wednesday. Please be sure to review journal notes and notes sent home in students' red folders to help your scholar review. We will also start to learn the life cycle of a butterfly the rest of the week. Please let me know if you have any questions. Parents,
I hope everyone is enjoying their Super Bowl Sunday! I am a Packers fan, but my new husband is a die-hard Broncos fan, so you know who we are rooting for today! This week: - Monday there will be a science quiz on the plant life cycle. We will continue to study the life cycles of different animals throughout the week. - There will be a math quiz on Friday on multiplying and dividing 4s. These scholars have a passion for multiplication! They are happy to be back to it after our addition and subtraction unit the past few weeks. - There will be the normal 30 word spelling test this Friday. Please continue to practice spelling words in print unless otherwise notified. - Friday is a half day! Students will be released at 12:00. - No school on Monday, February 15th. - Thursday, February 11th, is McDonald's Night from 5:00-7:00 at Litchfield and Indian School. - THANK YOU SO MUCH to everyone who donated to our class art fund. We have officially reached our goal already within the first week! We really appreciate the support. As always, please contact me if you have any questions. I look forward to another great week! Parents,
We are officially at the halfway point of third quarter! Time really does fly. This is the point in the year where we need to be exceedingly diligent about completing homework and reading with our scholars each night. The work does not get easier at this point in the year. We simply become more diligent in our studies and effort. This week:
