Tuesday-Thursday, May 22-24 - Half days, No lunches Wednesday - Flashlight Reading Party! Thursday - Last day of school! To celebrate the filling of our marble jar and the hard work our class has put in this year, we will be celebrating on Wednesday with a Flashlight Reading Party! Please send in one flashlight and a small blanket that is able to fit in your child's backpack for our party! If you have any questions, please let me know. Spalding- This week we will learn 10 new words on Monday. We will review the 10 words on Tuesday and have our final spelling test on Wednesday. Wednesday will also be our final phonogram test. Math- We will be reviewing math facts through some of the games we have played through out the year. Science- We will learn about Florence Nightingale and connect our prior learning to Clara Barton. We will make a key word outline in class and then the students will write two paragraphs using the key word outline. If they do not finish their paragraphs in class, it will be homework on Monday. Literature- We will be reading The Little Mermaid by Hans Christian Anderson. I'm sure you noticed that some of your scholar's books and journals came home on Friday. The remaining items will come home this Wednesday and Thursday. Please remember to have your child bring their yearbook to school on Thursday. We will have a signing party. Have a great week! Friday, May 18 - Charlotte's Web Celebration Tuesday-Thursday, May 22-24 - Half days, no lunches Thursday, May 24 - Last Day of School This week: Spalding- Your scholar will have 31 new words this week. All spelling words are to be written in cursive each night. Please have your scholar write their words in their best Spalding cursive. Markings need to be done on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Thursday you should dictate all 31 words to your scholar. Markings are not required on Thursday, but words must be written in cursive. ****If your child is misspelling a word, please mark it wrong and have them correct it on their homework. Please spend the extra time having your scholar say the words in syllables, spelling them on their fingers, then writing the words when practicing at home. Please let me know if your child is struggling. Math- We will be completing our end of year math assessments. These will assess students on everything we have learned this year. Due to this, we will be completing some different worksheets for homework each night to review. Please be looking for these in your child's red folder and returning them each day. Science- We will review everything we have learned about simple machines and complete a test on Tuesday. We will complete some writing regarding different scientists to finish the year in Science. Literature- We will finish reading Charlotte's Web this week and have a celebration on Friday. Science- We will continue to learn about simple machines. The pulley, wheel and axle, inclined plane, and the wedge will be the machines we discuss this week along with friction. Literature- We will continue to read Charlotte's Web through chapter 19. The class absolutely loves this book! They are learning some valuable lessons about friendship, trust, and compassion! Writing/Grammar- We will be creating a key word outline from the story excerpt Peter Pan. Students will then use their outline to write 3 paragraphs. Once their paragraphs are written they will check their work using a checklist before writing their final draft! Poem- Please have your child practice the poem Furry Bear every night.
