Dear Parents,
It was a short but wonderful week! Students completed their first geography quiz and the Galileo test for Math. We began exploring words using all of the phonogram sounds we have been working with. Things are truly coming together! Next week, we will have Galileo testing on Tuesday for Language Arts. This schedule had to be slightly adjusted for these tests, but we will finish this week. There will also be a Math test on Thursday assessing students on their number sense. I truly appreciate the help you provide during homework time, but remember the student is the one who really needs the practice on their own as well. Guide and assist your scholar, but make sure it really is their own work and ideas, especially in Math. Along with our Math test, we will have a Science test on Friday on the seasons cycle. Students will be bringing home their science journals to teach you all about what they have learned each day. Please discuss the details, order, and importance of each season. The notes will be provided in each journal for your reference. Please continue to send in supplies as you receive them. As I remind each student daily, please also remind your scholar to bring those supplies to me and not hide them in their desk. I want to keep these supplies safe all year, therefore, I am storing each book on my shelves to be sure they are not lost. We will continue to read Charlotte’s Web, which seems to be the students’ favorite part of the day. It truly warms my heart to see such a love of reading in my students. My goal is to continue to grow that love of reading in each student throughout the year. I truly support students reading books if they finish work early, but if they bring a book from home, please be sure it is not a form of pop culture or a scholastic book (Harry Potter, Diary of a Wimpy Kid etc.). Great Hearts supports classic books and stories that have stood the test of time (ex: The Tale of Peter Rabbit). I would also like to remind you that students may bring a water bottle to class, but be sure the liquid inside is truly water. Other juices and colored drinks are not allowed. Also, keep in mind the students do not have a microwave in the lunch area. The items in their lunch boxes cannot be heated up. Lastly, I highly encourage you to be visiting the blog every couple of days. It is updated more frequently than the weekly newsletter is emailed out or sent home. The link is: msgaabsclass.weebly.com. As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to email me at [email protected]. I am looking forward to another great week! Warmly, Jamie Gaab There are still many students who need literature books! I had a wonderful tip from a parent about a great place to purchase these if you have not done so already!
halfpricebooks.com sells gently used books that are fairly inexpensive. Most of the books this parent purchased were only 99 cents plus shipping, and they were in great condition! Please check this out! (Charlotte's Web, what we are currently reading, is only 99 cents! Yay!) 20 August 2015
Dear Parents, What another fantastic week of school! I enjoyed getting to know each student even more. I was able to have each student read to me individually, which is always a treat. I love the enthusiasm they have each time I say it is time to open up Charlotte’s Web. Next week, we will have Galileo testing on Tuesday and Thursday. Math testing is on Tuesday, and English Language Arts is on Thursday. Please make sure your scholar gets plenty of rest and a healthy breakfast the morning of these days in particular. We will encourage our scholars not to stress but just try their absolute best on these tests. As a reminder, we also do not have school on Friday. There has been much discussion concerning the consumable book list. Many of you have already sent in every book we will need this year, and they are safe and sound on my bookshelf. I know many of the books are still in transit to families, so please send those in to class as soon as you receive them. If you have any problems obtaining any of these books, please let me know as soon as possible. On Tuesday, we will also be having our first history quiz. The students have been studying geography and specifically landforms. Ask your scholar this weekend to sing one of the songs they have learned! A study guide will be given to prepare students for their first formal grade. Be on the lookout every night for a red homework folder and agenda. The folder and assignments will be inside daily. We also ask that you sign the bottom of the agenda every night, so we know you are aware of the homework they should be completing. I would also like to remind you that students may bring one small and healthy snack to have at recess. We encourage this as well as sending each student to school with a water bottle. Lastly, please be sure to visit the classroom blog. It is updated weekly with the newsletter, homework, spelling words, a wish list, and the occasional class trip information. The link is: msgaabsclass.weebly.com. As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to email me at [email protected]. I am looking forward to another great week! Warmly, Jamie Gaab Dear Parents,
The first week of school was an absolute success! I greatly enjoyed getting to know each student and their unique personalities. We truly have a wonderful class, and I am excited for the memories we will make this year. Also, thank you to all the parents who attended Meet the Teacher Night; it was a pleasure to meet you. Next week, we will dive head first into some fun content. During our reading time, we will start reading Charlotte’s Web and identifying important vocabulary throughout to support our understanding. I am excited my second grade team chose this wonderful classic to kick off our literature units and your child’s love for reading. You may have already seen your scholar come home with a new pencil grip or some new ways to form letters. We will continue working very hard to develop beautiful handwriting in class, and I would greatly appreciate this support at home as well in all homework and non-academic work as well. It will also be important for you to open up your phonogram cards and help your scholar memorize the sounds we have been working on in class. This is very imperative! Please take the time each night to quickly quiz your child. In mathematics, we will officially begin using our Singapore Math curriculum. I am confident this method will truly improve each student’s math skills, no matter the different strengths and weaknesses they each have in these beginning stages. The main concept to be covered is place value and how we can use the knowledge we have of place value to rename numbers. Our history and science units will alternate every unit. To begin, we will study geography. Students will be able to identify their own continent, country, state, and city. They will also be able to use a map and understand important landforms. This week we will also begin sending homework home in the red homework folder. Please keep an eye out for this folder, as it will contain all workbooks and papers needed to complete the nightly homework. Lastly, please be sure to send in all necessary materials, folders, and books as soon as possible if you have not already done so. We will start using them on Monday, and I do not want anyone to get behind. I will be sending out personalized emails to each of you to simplify having to decipher which books you still need. As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to email me at [email protected]. I am looking forward to another great week! Warmly, Jamie Gaab Dear Parents,
It is with great excitement that I welcome you and your child to second grade at Archway Trivium East. I am truly passionate about my profession and thrilled for the opportunity to teach your child. I cannot wait to get this school year started. I received my Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education with an Emphasis in Math from Grand Canyon University. I am a native to Arizona, but I have always lived in the East Valley. However, I found my home within Great Hearts and excitedly took the opportunity to move to the West Valley and teach at Archway Trivium East. In addition to teaching at ATE during its founding year, this winter I am also getting married and will soon be Mrs. Bennett! Linda Abram will be the teacher assistant in our classroom. Mrs. Abram is another Arizona native and has always enjoyed exploring all this vast, beautiful state has to offer. She worked in corporate America for most of her adult life and finally feels she is where her heart has always longed to be: in education. She has a fifteen year old daughter who is the biggest joy in her life. We are certainly lucky to have her in our classroom and our community. What happens in our classroom will affect your child’s future. I, as well as the entire Trivium faculty, will fill their minds and souls to the brim with quality content and ignite their desire to learn. From time to time, your child may even come home exhausted from all their thinking during the day. Their time here will be well spent as I will make every minute count! This letter serves as an invitation for you to join us in the learning process. We ask that you support at home the lofty goals we have set for your child. I am looking forward to a terrific year. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at [email protected]. Warmly, Jamie Gaab |
