Happy November! Upcoming events: November 11th - No school November 23rd - Half Day November 24th and 25th - No school This week: We will have 30 words in Spalding. Please be sure to complete the markings on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday to receive full credit on homework. Markings are not required on Thursdays. In math, we will begin multiplication! We will have quiz on Thursday and begin division on Friday. In science, we will continue our unit on biology. We will look at protozoa and amoeba and conduct an experiment on Wednesday. We will have a test on Friday. We will begin reciting our poem Furry Bear today and get through each scholar by Friday. There will be a grammar quiz on Friday. Two review sheets will go home with your scholar tonight to study throughout the week. In literature, we will read the final chapter of The Hundred Dresses and take a test on Thursday. Parents, It was wonderful to see you all this past week! Thank you for taking the time to meet with me to discuss your child's education. Your involvement makes such a difference! Upcoming events: October 28th - Picture Retake Day November 11th - No school This week: - This week in Spalding we will study 30 words. Please be sure to include the markings on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday to receive full credit on spelling homework. Markings are not required on Thursday. - In math, we will conclude our unit on measurement. We will work with yards, feet, inches, and review meters and centimeters from last week. There will be a test on Friday. - We will begin a new biology unit in Science. Students will observe living organisms during a nature walk outside. We will compare items that are man-made vs. natural and how, as biologists, we use our senses to help us observe living things. - In grammar, we will study the four types of sentences and prepositions. There will not be a quiz this week. - In The Hundred Dresses, we will read chapters 4, 5, and 6. We will have a quiz on Wednesday over chapters 1 through 4 only. - This is the last week to study our poem, Furry Bear. If you need another copy of the poem, please look under the homework tab on this blog. We will begin reciting the poem on October 31st. Please let me know if you have any questions. Upcoming events: October 17-21 - Half Days (no lunch) and Conferences October 20 - Family Night at Main Event Avondale - 2:00-7:00 October 28 - Picture Retake Day (only if wanted) This week: - We will have 30 spelling words. Students will measure items and be able to find the difference between two items' lengths. There will be a quiz on Friday. - We will not have any history or science this week due to the shortened days. - We will begin our new literature book, Hundred Dresses. We will read chapters 1 -3 and write summaries as a class each day. These summaries will serve as a study guide for students to use to study for the end-of-book test in a couple weeks. - Tomorrow, students will receive a copy of the poem, Furry Bear. I lead the way, I led the way, they're not spelled the same!") - In math, we will review addition and subtraction with renaming for our chapter 2 test on Thursday. - In history, we will finish studying the geography of North and South America and take our final test on Wednesday. - In literature, we will review our book, Boxcar Children with a study guide, and take our test on Thursday. Students may take home this book on Thursday after the quiz. - We will have a grammar quiz on Tuesday over subject nouns, verbs, adverbs, adjectives, and article adjectives.
