As March ends, we are ready for April and all of the fun events that it brings! Upcoming events: Monday-Thursday, March 26-29 - Food & Water Collection Drive for St. Mary's Food Bank Tuesday, March 27 - PSO Family Night at Chipotle, 4-8 PM Friday, March 30 - No school Thursday, April 5 - 2nd Grade Field Trip to the Desert Botanical Gardens Friday, April 6 - Field Day Chaperones have been chosen! Due to the high volume and limited spots, a drawing was completed. If you emailed me interested in chaperoning, you will receive an email on Monday letting you know of the results. This week: Spalding- Your scholar will have 17 new words this week. All spelling words are to be written in cursive each night. Please have your scholar write their words in their best Spalding cursive. Markings need to be done on Monday and Tuesday. Wednesday you should dictate all 17 words to your scholar. Markings are not required on Wednesday, but words must be written in cursive. ****If your child is misspelling a word, please mark it wrong and have them correct it on their homework. Math- We will begin a unit on fractions. We will use the knowledge we had of money to support this transition. Example: 4 quarters equals a dollar. 4 quarters equals the whole. There will be a quiz on Thursday. Please continue to work on basic math facts at home with your child. Addition and subtraction facts through 20 should be mastered by the end of the year. History - We will continue our history unit on The Civil War. There will be a test on Thursday. Literature- We will continue to read The Magician's Nephew. Scholars are loving this story! It is a high-level text and they are comprehending it so well! Writing and Grammar- Students will write three paragraphs, two sentences in each, on an excerpt of The Story of the Greeks. Dear Families,
We are excited to go to the Desert Botanical Garden to be Desert Detectives for the day to learn about the life cycles of various desert plants and animals. We are also excited to have an extra bit of time in the Butterfly Pavilion! Please see below for all the details. When: Thursday, April 5 from 9:30-11:30 pm Where: Desert Botanical Garden (for tour/pavilion) What to Bring: quick and healthy snack, disposable water bottle with name written on it, sunscreen and/or hat What to Wear: Archway Trivium East uniform attire Cost: $10 in exact cash/check due by Monday, April 2 Lunch: We will eat lunch when we return back to school. Please send in a lunch for your child just like a normal day. Permission Slips: Permission slips were sent home today in your child’s red folder. Please sign and return the permission slip and $10 fee no later than Monday, April 2. Chaperones: If you are interested in being a chaperone, you must have a fingerprint clearance card on file with our school and send in an extra $10 for yourself in order to attend. Per the Desert Botanical Garden’s policy, I can only take 5 parent chaperones, so if we have more than 5 parents interested, I will put together a drawing and the first 5 names picked will be able to attend. We will begin a new history unit on the Civil War on Wednesday. Literature- We will begin a new story called The Magician's Nephew. This is the prequel to The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe that scholars will read next year in third grade.
