We are in the final week of the first semester! We have accomplished so much and have learned new and exciting curriculum! I hope that you and your families have a relaxing, wonderful, healthy winter break! I'm looking forward to the second half of the school year! Upcoming Events: December 18-20: Half Day Dismissal-NO LUNCHES December 21-January 5: Winter Break January 8-10: Half Day Dismissal-NO LUNCHES January 11-12: FULL DAYS Here is a look at this week! Spalding- Your scholar will have 11 new words this week. Please dictate the 11 words to your scholar 3 times in different orders. As your scholar writes the words, they need to also do the markings for each word. Please have your scholar write their words in their best Spalding handwriting. Markings need to be done on Monday only! Tuesday you should dictate all 11 words to your scholar. Markings are not required on Tuesday. The spelling and phonogram test will be on Wednesday. ****If your child is misspelling a word, please mark it wrong and have them correct it on their homework. Scholars need to study phonograms 1-70 every night. If your scholar can say all 70 phonogram sounds, please practice having them write their phonograms as you dictate to them. Math- We will be studying our math facts this week. There will not be any tests! For homework this week, please study your math flashcards! Science- We will continue to study the digestive system and the cell. There will be a test on Wednesday! Literature- We will finish reading Little House in the Big Woods. The final test will be on Tuesday. To celebrate this book we will be making log cabins on Wednesday! We are almost through our 1st semester of 2nd grade! We have a very busy week ahead! There have been a lot of tummy aches, sore throats, coughs and headaches. If your scholar is not feeling well and you need to keep them home this week, please email me and let me know. That way I can get you the missing work before the end of the quarter!

Math - We will be learning to divide with remainders and about odd and even numbers. There will be a test on Friday that will include multiplying and dividing by 2s and 3s. Please keep working on flashcards with addition and subtraction within 20. Science-We will complete our unit on the water cycle with a test on Tuesday. We will then start a unit on the digestive system. Literature- We will continue to read Little House in the Big Woods. This week we will read chapters 4-8, with a quiz on Friday. The class is really enjoying the adventures and lessons in this book! Writing/Grammar- We will continue to discuss nouns, verbs, and adverbs.
