Parents,
We have a busy week ahead and a half day on Friday! Here are some important events and a look at the week to come! Upcoming Events: October 26-November 9: Read-a-thon Friday, November 3: SPIRIT DAY and Half Day Dismissal-NO LUNCHES Thursday, November 9: Read-a-thon pages due Friday, November 10: Veteran's Day-NO SCHOOL November 16-17: Book Fair shopping at school Friday, November 17: Literary and Historical Figure Day Monday, December 4: Winter Concert Spalding- Your scholar will have 30 new words this week. Each night, your scholar will receive a piece of paper, in their red folder, with the 10 words that were studied in class that day. Please dictate the 10 words to your scholar 3 times in different orders. As your scholar writes the words, they need to also do the markings for each word. Please have your scholar write their words in their best Spalding handwriting. Markings need to be done on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Thursday you should dictate all 30 words to your scholar. Markings are not required on Thursdays. ****If your child is misspelling a word, please mark it wrong and have them correct it on their homework. Scholars need to study phonograms 1-70 every night. If your scholar can say all 70 phonogram sounds, please practice having them write their phonograms as you dictate to them. Math- This week in math we will begin multiplication and division. We will be looking at equal groups and connecting multiplication to repeated addition. We will use rectangular arrays to illustrate multiplication, and we will end the week by solving simple division word problems as we learn how to divide equally. There will be a quiz on Thursday. ***Students should have their basic math facts through 20 memorized. It would be good practice to have your child practice math flashcards a couple of times a week. Addition and subtraction flashcards can be purchased at most dollar stores. History- In history this week we will be learning about the Ancient Greece Olympics, Athens, and Sparta. Look for a review to come home on Thursday. There will be a quiz on Friday. We will continue to read aloud the Iliad. The students are enjoying this story and how it connects with what we are learning in history! Grammar/Writing- We will continue to work on nouns and verbs along with adding adverbs this week. Let me know if you have any questions! Have a great week! Mrs. Bennett
