Dear Parents,
It is exciting to finally be able to celebrate and talk about the wonderful mascot of our new school! I hope you were able to attend the Celebration and Reveal on Friday night, and if you weren’t, ask your scholar about it! We’ve been discussing the mascot and our school pledge since the beginning of the year, and they have been so excited to share that with you! Next week, we will move from single digit problems to double and triple digit addition and subtraction. There will not be regrouping in these problems, but instead, we will build the foundation for problems that require regrouping. Scholars will also start to see problems given to them vertically instead of horizontally. Please be sure to check during homework time that your scholar sees it is the same problem, just written in a different way. The end of September is here! This means our students will be reciting the poem Bed in Summer at some point within the coming week (depending how long it takes for 30 students to individually recite it). Keep practicing! Charlotte’s Web is finally coming to an end. Although some students have read this literature book before (or seen the movie), I am not sure how the rest of the students will take the ending! We have all come to love Charlotte very much! We will also begin a new science unit on the water cycle. The students will be able to label and define each stage, along with placing clouds in the correct stratosphere. They will even learn ways we can all conserve water. Do not forget about our upcoming Singapore Math informational night on October 7th. This will truly create a better understanding of the content your scholar will be seeing all year and the meaning behind the process in which we teach it. Also, starting this coming Thursday, hot lunches will no longer be provided. Please be sure your scholar has a lunch each day from home, especially with the necessary utensils. It is imperative that your scholar is studying phonograms every night. It truly cannot be an option. As we get closer to starting the second quarter, the success of each student highly depends on the knowledge they have of phonograms. Please keep studying!

I want to remind you of our Celebration and Reveal of our Mascot this Friday at 6:00! It's going to be a fun time with ice cream, games, and of course, the exciting reveal of our mascot! Mrs. Abram and I will be running a game and would love to see you there!
Dear Parents,
I cannot believe we are already headed into week seven. We have been busy in class building foundations for the coming quarters, and it is exciting to see the students catching on. Spalding is now a conversation they also bring up in writing. Making ten is now a conversation they have with word problems. It is an exciting time! Next week, we will have a quiz in math on word problems. I know that word problems can be a dreaded part of math for some students. It truly can be a difficult concept. However, we have been practicing every day how to form a number bond to help us decipher if we need to add or subtract. I hope my “cheat sheet” to you all was helpful. Please let me know if you have questions. In history, we have been studying many different rulers among Mesopotamia. We have been analyzing the type of king they each are and character traits to describe them based on in-class readings and socratic discussions. The students have also been using venn-diagrams to find similarities and differences between each. They truly do love when it is time for history! We will continue to read our literature book Charlotte’s Web. Each scholar is impressed with themselves and our class by how much we have already read. This was the perfect book for them to start the year with to build a love for reading. Please remember to attend the Peter Piper Pizza night on Monday, September 21st. It will be a great time for all that attend! Our Celebration and Unveiling of the Mascot will also be this coming Friday, September 25h. Mrs. Abram and I will be running a game and would love to see you there. Thank you for the continuous support you give your scholar in their education. It does not go unnoticed. I know dictating spelling words, reviewing phonograms, and studying poems can be tiring after a long day at work (and at school for the students), but the difference within the classroom is so very evident. As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to email me at [email protected]. I am looking forward to another great week! |
