Parents, I hope you all had a wonderful Fall Break and found time for some relaxation and fun. I'm excited to start the second quarter strong! Upcoming events: October 16-20: Parent-teacher conferences (half days) Friday, October 20: Spirit Day K-2 Family Game Night (5:30-7:30) Thursday, October 26: Singapore Math Curriculum Night - 6:00-7:00 Friday, October 27: Picture Retake Day Friday, November 3: Half Day This week: I look forward to seeing you all this week for our Fall Conferences. If you have not yet signed up, please do so at the following link: www.SignUpGenius.com/go/30E084CAFAF22AAFF2-fall There will be 30 new spelling words this week. Please dictate the 10 words to your scholar 3 times in different orders. As your scholar writes the words, they need to also do the markings for each word. Please have your scholar write their words in their best Spalding handwriting. Markings need to be used on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. On Thursday, dictate all 30 words to your scholar one time. Markings are not required on Thursday. ****Scholars need to study phonograms 1-70 every night. If your child can say all 70 phonogram sounds, please practice having them write their phonograms as the sounds are dictated to them. In math, we will begin a new unit on measurement. This week will include measuring using non-standard units of measure (paperclips, hands etc.), meters, and centimeters. There will be a quiz on Friday. ****Students should have addition and subtraction math facts with sums to 20 memorized. To support this, please have your child practice math flashcards a couple of times a week. In history this week, we will being an exciting unit on Ancient Greece. I have been excited for this unit to come along! Please pay close attention to your child's history journal this quarter. Although students have been used to writing a nightly 2-3 sentence summary, sometimes students will also be asked to answer specific questions in his or her journal in complete sentences, instead of a summary. The questions will be glued in the same spot students were writing summaries. To clarify if there are questions to answer or a summary to write, please refer to your child's agenda. In literature, we will begin to read the story of how the greek gods and goddesses came to be. This will tie in beautifully to the knowledge students will obtain from the Ancient Greece unit in History. Please let me know if you have any questions! I look forward to seeing you this week.
