Dear Parents,
It was a short but wonderful week! Students completed their first geography quiz and the Galileo test for Math. We began exploring words using all of the phonogram sounds we have been working with. Things are truly coming together! Next week, we will have Galileo testing on Tuesday for Language Arts. This schedule had to be slightly adjusted for these tests, but we will finish this week. There will also be a Math test on Thursday assessing students on their number sense. I truly appreciate the help you provide during homework time, but remember the student is the one who really needs the practice on their own as well. Guide and assist your scholar, but make sure it really is their own work and ideas, especially in Math. Along with our Math test, we will have a Science test on Friday on the seasons cycle. Students will be bringing home their science journals to teach you all about what they have learned each day. Please discuss the details, order, and importance of each season. The notes will be provided in each journal for your reference. Please continue to send in supplies as you receive them. As I remind each student daily, please also remind your scholar to bring those supplies to me and not hide them in their desk. I want to keep these supplies safe all year, therefore, I am storing each book on my shelves to be sure they are not lost. We will continue to read Charlotte’s Web, which seems to be the students’ favorite part of the day. It truly warms my heart to see such a love of reading in my students. My goal is to continue to grow that love of reading in each student throughout the year. I truly support students reading books if they finish work early, but if they bring a book from home, please be sure it is not a form of pop culture or a scholastic book (Harry Potter, Diary of a Wimpy Kid etc.). Great Hearts supports classic books and stories that have stood the test of time (ex: The Tale of Peter Rabbit). I would also like to remind you that students may bring a water bottle to class, but be sure the liquid inside is truly water. Other juices and colored drinks are not allowed. Also, keep in mind the students do not have a microwave in the lunch area. The items in their lunch boxes cannot be heated up. Lastly, I highly encourage you to be visiting the blog every couple of days. It is updated more frequently than the weekly newsletter is emailed out or sent home. The link is: msgaabsclass.weebly.com. As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to email me at [email protected]. I am looking forward to another great week! Warmly, Jamie Gaab
