Parents,
In addition to the Meet the Teacher flipbook information about history summaries, I wanted to clarify what I am looking for in students' history summaries. Each night, students are to complete a history summary each night unless we have a quiz without any new content that day. Summaries must be in his or her own words, not copying the notes. Summaries are to be written on the same page as the notes or on the page to the left of the notes (essentially wherever there is space on that page). Each summary graded for the week is worth 5 points. - 1 point for a capital letter at the beginning - 1 point for correct punctuation at the end - 1 point for 2 - 3 complete sentences - 2 points for content (written in their own words with real detail) Examples of a quality sentence: Today I learned that the equator is an imaginary line that divides the earth in half. Today I learned that I live in North America. Examples of a sentence that would not receive full credit: Today I learned about the equator. Today I learned about the continents. I hope this clarifies our expectations for history summaries. If you have any further questions, please email me. Mrs. Bennett
