Project Week
January 8-12, 2018 Dear Archway Trivium East Families, We are excited to begin working on this year’s project for Project Week. Project Week is a week of half-days and full days where students will be engaged in the study of the systems of the human body during the school day and will spend the afternoons at home working on activities designed to deepen their expertise on the subject. In second grade, our focus this year is to immerse our students in a study of the digestive system. Content: Students will spend a portion of each school day in guided research and summarizing information on the function of the different organs of the digestive system. Students will choose an organ from the digestive system and use the research done in class to create a model. Choices include the following: Mouth Esophagus Stomach Small Intestine Large Intestine Requirements: 1. A written summary of the function of the organ in the digestive system (to be completed in-class). 2. A model of the organ including its basic parts (to be completed at home). o Example: A model of the mouth would include the tongue, teeth, and salivary glands. o Example: A model of the small intestine would include a coiled tube shape approximately 20 feet long with digestive juices and villi. Due Date: The final project and summary is due in class on Friday, January 12, 2018. Please be prepared to attend Project Night, Wednesday, January 17, 2018, at 6:00 with your scholar. This is a mandatory event, and attendance will affect your child’s Project Week grade. We look forward to the opportunity that project week provides us to deepen our knowledge of how the human body works. Thank you, Mrs. Bennett
