Parents,
Thank you for all of your support throughout our first week of school. I already know this year is going to be amazing. We have a wonderful group of scholars, and I am excited to continue to get to know them all and how I can best serve each one. We also truly appreciate all of the supplies you are sending in. If you are having any difficulties collecting any of these supplies, please let me know as soon as possible because we will start using almost every one starting tomorrow. Upcoming events: August 15th - Peter Piper Pizza Night (see flyer that was sent home on Thursday) August 17th - Early Dismissal August 26th - Half Day Dismissal This week in second grade: - We will begin true content in every area. - We will begin learning our first 30 spelling words in Spalding. Be on the lookout for the nightly Spalding homework that will be sent home in your scholar's red folder. It should be sent back to school each day. Please read the directions on how to complete the homework correctly with your scholar. - In Math, we will study numbers within 1,000. We will review place value, number words, and arranging numbers from smallest to largest and largest to smallest. There will be a quiz on Thursday. - In history, we will be working on students' spatial sense. Scholars will look at the different features on a map and understand how to read one. They will also learn about the major continents and oceans. Be on the lookout for the ocean and continent song in their journals! Ask your scholar to sing it for you! Each night scholar's are expected to read through the notes taken that day, and write a two-three sentence summary in their own words of what they learned that day. There will be a quiz on Friday. - We will begin reading our first literature book, Boxcar Children. If you have not brought this literature book in yet, please bring it in as soon as possible. We will read chapters one and two this week.
