Parents,
Friday, February 2: Jump Rope for Heart Kick Off Event 5-7pm Friday, February 9: Spirit Day and Half day - No Lunches Monday, February 19: No school Friday, March 9: No school March 12-16: Spring Break March 30: No school Here is a look at this week: This week: Spalding- Your scholar will have 28 new words this week. Each night, your scholar will receive a piece of paper, in their red folder, with the 10 or 8 words that were studied in class that day. Please dictate the words to your scholar 3 times in different orders. As your scholar writes the words, they need to also do the markings for each word. Please have your scholar write their words in their best Spalding handwriting. Markings need to be done on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Thursday you should dictate all 28 words to your scholar. Markings are not required on Thursday. ****If your child is misspelling a word, please mark it wrong and have them correct it on their homework. Scholars need to study phonograms 1-70 every night. If your scholar can say all 70 phonogram sounds, please practice having them write their phonograms as you dictate to them. Math- In math this week we will be starting our unit on MENTAL math. Students will be learning how to use strategies to make 10 and 100, mentally to add or subtract. There will be a quiz on Friday. History- We will be learning about Westward Expansion. We will study Lewis and Clark, the invention of the Steamboat, and the Oregon Trail. Please make sure to have your child talk about what they learned from that day before they complete their homework summaries. Literature- We will continue reading Cricket in Times Square chapters 6-9. We had a wonderful seminar on what is want. We discussed the wants of each character and if they were wants of Reason or Appetite. Students discussed the importance of being sure the wants of their Appetite are in line with their Reason. It was the best seminar we have had! Writing/Grammar- We will be writing our own summaries and using a checklist to make sure the sentences include a capital letter, end mark, subject, verb, Spalding handwriting, and that it makes sense.
