Parents,
We will begin poem recitations of Windy Nights this week. Please be sure your scholar is prepared for this presentation. If you have misplaced the poem that was sent home in red folders, please look at the previous blog post in order to find it. Upcoming events: Tuesday, February 27: Peter Piper Pizza Night Friday, March 2: Last day to donate to the Jump Rope for Heart Jar Friday, March 9: No school March 12-16: Spring Break This week: Spalding- Your scholar will have 22 new words this week. All spelling words are to be written in cursive each night. Please have your scholar write their words in their best Spalding cursive. Markings need to be done on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Thursday you should dictate all 22 words to your scholar. Markings are not required on Thursday. ****If your child is misspelling a word, please mark it wrong and have them correct it on their homework. Math- We will continue our unit on money by looking at number words, converting between denominations, making change, and adding money. There will be a quiz on Thursday. Please continue to work on basic math facts at home with your child. Addition and subtraction facts through 20 should be mastered by the end of the year. Science - We will continue our science unit on life cycles. As we continue, we will also learn about the life cycle of a frog and of a chicken. We hope that our beans will begin to sprout soon as well! There will be a test on Thursday. NEW HOMEWORK: On Tuesday, students will be given a keyword outline to glue into their journals for homework. They are to use this outline to write a summary about what was learned in class that day. Literature- We will continue to read The Odyssey in class. Students absolutely love hearing the adventures that Odysseus has to endure as he tries to journey home to Ithaca. Writing and Grammar- Students will be asked to write a five-sentence summary about an excerpt of Little Women. Please email me if you have any questions! Mrs. Bennett
