Parents, How are we already halfway done with the first quarter of second grade? I can't believe how fast time flies. I have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know each one of your children, and I cherish each day I have with them. This week: - We will only have 20 spelling words due to the shorter week. Please remember to have your scholar write the markings on Tuesday and Wednesday to receive full credit on their homework. Please be sure to study phonograms 1-70 every night as well. This will help your scholar during spelling tests as well. Also, be look at the "Spelling Words" tab on the blog for Spalding tips and tricks for you! - In math this week, we will continue our study of addition and subtraction without renaming using mental math. We are using number bonds to support our problem solving skills in word problems. There will be a quiz on Thursday. - We begin a chemistry unit this week in science. Students will observe through an experiment that acids and bases have different properties. There will not be a quiz this week. Please be sure to study and discuss your scholar's notes each night. To receive full credit, please be sure your scholar is writing one 2-3 sentence summary in their science journal each night. - In literature, we will read chapters 7 and 8 of Boxcar Children. We will have a quiz on chapters 4-8 on Thursday. - In grammar, we will continue to study nouns, verbs, and adverbs. This week we will also be introducing adjectives. There will not be a quiz this week. - Please note that we will begin reciting our poem, Bed in Summer, starting next week. This is the last week to study! If you need another copy of the poem, please look at the "Homework" tab of the blog. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to email me. Thank you for your support! Mrs. Bennett
