Welcome back! I hope you all had a wonderful Spring Break. We are ready to tackle the fourth quarter and finish strong! Upcoming events: Friday, March 23 - Last day to order a yearbook - ybpay.lifetouch.com School Code: 12533918 Tuesday, March 22 - Family Night at Chipotle - 4:00-8:00 Friday, March 30 - No school Thursday, April 5 - 2nd Grade Field Trip to the Desert Botanical Gardens Friday, April 6 - Field Day I will be sending out details on Wednesday about our field trip, so keep your eye open for that! This week: Spalding- Your scholar will have 24 new words this week. All spelling words are to be written in cursive each night. Please have your scholar write their words in their best Spalding cursive. Markings need to be done on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Thursday you should dictate all 24 words to your scholar. Markings are not required on Thursday. ****If your child is misspelling a word, please mark it wrong and have them correct it on their homework. Math- We will continue our unit on money by reviewing addition and learning subtraction of money. There will be a test on Friday. Please continue to work on basic math facts at home with your child. Addition and subtraction facts through 20 should be mastered by the end of the year. Science - We will continue our science unit on life cycles. There will be a test on Tuesday. We will begin a new history unit on the Civil War on Wednesday. Literature- We will begin a new story called The Magician's Nephew. This is the prequel to The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe that scholars will read next year in third grade. Literature- We will continue reading Cricket in Times Square chapters 6-9. We had a wonderful seminar on what is want. We discussed the wants of each character and if they were wants of Reason or Appetite. Students discussed the importance of being sure the wants of their Appetite are in line with their Reason. It was the best seminar we have had! Writing/Grammar- We will be writing our own summaries and using a checklist to make sure the sentences include a capital letter, end mark, subject, verb, Spalding handwriting, and that it makes sense. This week we will read chapters 1-5. Writing/Grammar: We will continue to study nouns, verbs, and adverbs. Students will be writing sentences and replacing given adverbs to an adverb of their choice. We are practicing writing beautiful sentences that include the 5 parts of a sentence: 1. Capital letter at the beginning 2. Noun 3. Verb 4. Does the sentence make sense 5. End Marks. These are good prompts to ask your child, if they have included the 5 parts of a sentence, when writing their History or Science sentences. If you have any questions, please let me know. Literature- We will begin reading Sarah Plain and Tall. This is a story that can be sad at times, but it shows the importance and desire for a true family.
